After leaving the school in 1965 I went to Sheffield and then London University to study social sciences.

This was followed by 20 or so years at Bath University School of Management, where I was a lecturer and researcher.

In 1998 I got a professorship at the University of Birmingham, followed by a similar appointment at University College London in 2001. I retired 3 years ago and we now live near Stroud. My wife and I met at Sheffield and we have been married for more than 40 years. We have two grown-up 'boys' both married, but no grandchildren as yet. Our hobbies are all sorts of music, books, travel, and food.

I disappeared to the NCB but left (before Dave Merrick joined) to a Poly to study science, gained a masters in surface chemistry at city university and worked in material development ever since.

I married Sandra, the sister of Roger Paul who was in the year above us

I still work - I lead a development team in a USA Aerospace company and work between the Uk and Los Angeles. I am also a consultant for a Chinese company but I will never learn Chinese.

I moved to Dundee as my father went up there to work for Timex. I attended Grove Academy in Broughty Ferry on the outskirts of Dundee and it was a bit of a shock at first because I had trouble understanding them and it was a mixed school! I coped eventually.

I left school and joined the Royal Navy in the Fleet Air Arm branch where I spent 24 years. I came out as a senior engineering Chief and served in the Far East, East Africa, South Africa, the Mediterranean, the Arctic, USA, and of course the South Atlantic. My last few years in the Navy I was a trouble shooter for all military Helicopters, so I travelled extensively throughout Europe, including, of course, Northern Ireland.

I met and married my wife, Pam, while I was stationed in the UK for a while and we have two children, Nicola, who is 42, and David who is 39. We have 3 grandchildren: 2 live in Bournemouth with my daughter, and 1 lives in Aspen with my son, who had the same wander lust as me.

On leaving the Navy, I decided that I wanted a change of direction, so we took over a pub in Fowey, Cornwall. We were there for 2 years, then took over a different pub at a village called Pentewan, nr St Austell in Cornwall. We were there for 17 years and then gave it up due to law changes and deciding that we wanted a quieter life. We moved out to Cyprus and retired with my pensions. We have lived out here in Cyprus now for 6 years and are very happy.

I read and laughed when I read about the trip to the Lake district as I well remember sitting in a blizzard trying to eat a sandwich. Oh happy days. I also remember when Norman Gittins first started us playing Rugby and one of our first away matches we moved cows off the field. I played hooker and ended up in a good dollop of cow muck and the ref got 2 lads to drag me in the grass to get as much off as possible, as it was not fair on the second row. I think Chris Gittings was one of them. I played for many years after, and coached, but never ever got into such a state again.

On leaving TGS in 1963, I joined the Army and the Infantry Junior Leaders Battalion at Oswestry in Shropshire. I served there until April 1965 when I ‘passed out’ into adult service and joined The Gloucestershire Regiment. During my time with the regiment I served in Swaziland, Bechuanaland, Cyprus, Germany (Berlin and Minden) and, of course Northern Ireland.

I was accompanied on several of my postings by my wife Barbara, whom I married in Tewkesbury Abbey in August 1968. Whilst we were stationed in Berlin she gave birth to our daughter Karen, who has since presented us with four Grand Children.

On leaving the Regiment in April 1974, I joined Gloucestershire Constabulary and served in Cheltenham and Tewkesbury. The latter for some 18 years or so.

Unfortunately, in 1996, I had to leave the Police on ill-health grounds (Diabetes). No disability Discrimination Act to fall back on then!

After working as a security guard for about 18 months, I joined West Mercia Constabulary as a Traffic Warden (Yes I can hear you boo and hiss!!), then in 2004, when the government introduced Police Community Support Officers, I changed my role with West Mercia and became the first PCSO for Evesham. I am still working in the role and at the same station.

In addition to joining Gloucestershire Constabulary in 1974, I also became an instructor with the Army Cadets in Tewkesbury, and remained involved with the ACF until 1984. In December of that year I joined the Air Cadets as a member of staff, and I am still serving with that organisation. Alongside my Air Cadet duties, I act as Bandmaster for Tewkesbury Sea Cadets.

After leaving TGS, I obtained an HND in Business Studies at Redditch College of FE (now North-East Worcestershire College) in 1967.

After spells with various companies (Gala Cosmetic Group, Persona International, Oyez Reprographics) and studying for the Institute of Marketing's Diploma in Marketing at evening classes, I changed course and left for the United Arab Emirates to work as a consultant in micrographics (design and implementation of microfilm systems). After the initial culture shock, I spent three very happy and rewarding years there before coming home in 1979 to marry Lionelle, a French teaching assistante I had met a few years earlier.

We could well have settled in the UK except that I was offered a job in France. Since the job also entailed translating sales literature into French, I began to develop a taste for this activity and a few years later landed a job as an in-house translator for a private bank (Banque Neuflize OBC), where I stayed for 10 years. In 2005, I decided to set up on my own as a freelance translator and still work for this bank and other financial institutions.

I have a daughter, Claire (27, a social worker) and a son, Thomas (25, studying for a PhD in sociology). I plan to retire in early 2013.

After TGS I went to Leicester University and did a degree in Psychology. I met Barbara, my wife, at the freshers' hop and we are still happily married. I joined the computer department of Rolls Royce in Derby where I stayed for about five years.

I did a Post Graduate teaching certificate and enjoyed teaching in a Derby primary school for six years before I got the computer bug again and set up a software company where I remained as Managing Director until I retired at about 50. I then tried shotgun shooting and invented a clay shooting simulator which ended up with the formation of another company.

I am now trying to retire for the second time - though I find computers and business strangely addictive and enjoyable so along with a colleague I engage in "projects" - my colleague does the electronics, I write the software. Some of them have actually taken off! Hobbies: work, walking in the Peak District, radio controlled model aircraft (no longer), reading (my Kindle is overloaded!)

Royal Agricultural College Cirencester 1967-1970 (now Royal Agricultural University).

A short time as a surveyor on the M5 Motorway construction. Qualified as a Chartered Surveyor/ Then with Bernard Thorpe and Partners in Hereford from 1971 finally moving to G H Bayley and Sons in Cheltenham in 1980. Retired in 2010.

Very active interest in archaeology

I excavated a Romano Medieval site in my orchard in the 1990's and have another Roman site I am now working on here in Newnham. I organised an Archaeology Weekend display in March for the locals showcasing local finds. But my highlight has to have been in 2000 working with Pembroke County Council's millennium project, a re-enactment, to move a 3 ton Bluestone from the Preseli hills by sea and overland to Stonehenge. I was with the seaborn team.... sadly it didn't get further than the entrance to Milford Haven, but it was great fun

After graduating at London University, I joined British Coal at the research establishment in Stoke Orchard, thinking that it would just be for a short time until I found out what I really wanted to do with my life. How time passes! I ended up working for them in London and then, following the privatisation in 1994, became a management consultant.

I met Sue in 1992, and we quickly became an item. Sue is a consultant psychiatrist and so we operate in very different areas! In 2001, the world changed with the arrival of our daughter Clare!For what time there is left when I am not working or running a taxi service for my daughter, we all enjoy skiing, cycling, tennis and holidays in warmer climates.

I continued my schooling at Bushey Grammar and then Maidstone Grammar.

Later, I obtained a BSc in Electronic Engineering at Birmingham University.

I worked at the BBC, and then at Birmingham Grammar School and Pimlico Comprehensive as a physics teacher. After that I lived overseas, first in Hong Kong and then Fiji, Australia and finally New Zealand. I retired from Victoria University of Wellington in 2012, having taught courses in project management to students of information systems.

I continue to enjoy hiking in New Zealand and playing tennis.

1968-1981 Brewing beer for Whitbreads. (Yes I did get paid to drink it!) Not enough others did. Made redundant.

1981-1982 P.G.C.E.

1983-1995: Teaching chemistry, physics, & Biology. Offered early retirement aged 48, & took it 1 Jan 1996. Pension enough to live on. Never looked back. Never married.

2000 onwards looking after post office until it closed, and also parents.
