The state we are in - a snapshot
This page contains a snapshot of the world as seen from the UK on 26th January, 2024
- Russia does not pose a military threat to the UK.
- China does not pose a military threat to the UK.
- Israel does pose a threat to the UK because of our Government's blind support for it
- We do not need a "Citizens' Army" or conscription.
- We need energy and raw materials at a price we can afford.
- Russia wants to sell raw materials (gas, oil, minerals) and agricultural products to us.
- China wants to sell finished products to us.
- We want to sell products to both Russia and China.
- We are paying higher energy costs following the destruction of the Nordstream pipelines by the USA.
- Our cost of living has increased because of policies pursued by governments in the UK and USA
- UK and European manufacturing has been severely damaged by increased energy costs.
- The USA continues to benefit financially by increased sales of high priced oil and gas.
- The USA came late to WWII and did not "give" us military assistance.
- 60 years after the end of WWII, in 2006, we finished repaying the USA for the weapons it sold us.
- 80 years after the end of WWII the USA still treats the UK as an aircraft carrier and a safe haven for its spies.
- The USA has over 1,000 military bases outside the USA.
- American and NATO bases surround Russia.
- America continues to maintain bases where it is not wanted - in Iraq and Syria for example.
- In 2014 an American funded coup in Ukraine led to the overthrow of a democratically elected government.
- From 2014 onwards the new American-backed Ukrainian government banned the teaching of Russian in schools and killed over 14,000 people in the Russian-speaking regions of east.
- In 2014 the Minsk agreement attempted to resolve the problems in Ukraine. As Angela Merkel admitted, under pressure from the Ukrainian government and the USA, the EU had no intention of implementing the agreement.
- Instead of improving the lives of UK citizens we have poured billions into weapons for Ukraine.
- In October 2023 Hamas attacked American-backed Israel with the intention of seizing hostages.
- During the chaotic response to the Hamas attack the American-backed Israeli government killed hundreds of its own citizens using tanks, artillery and American manufactured Hellfire missiles fired from American manufactured Apache helicopters.
- During the invasion of Gaza the USA supplied thousands of tons of weapons to American-backed Israel resulting in the deaths of over 45,000 Palestinians and the total destruction of their homes. The UK provided assistance to Israel by exporting weapons and by surveillance flights from bases in Cyprus.
- American-backed Israel, and the US government under Donald Trump, are intent on ethically cleansing Arabs from the whole of Israel.
- The International Court of Justice has defined Israel's actions as genocide and issued arrest warrants for several Israeli citizens.
- In January 2024 the de facto government of North Yemen, in support of the Palestinians, closed the Red Sea to shipping associated with America and American-backed Israel.
- The actions of the USA, and its proxy governments, have resulted in further increases in our cost of living.
- American-backed Israel has invaded the sovereign country of Syria.
- American-backed Israel has invaded the sovereign country of Lebanon.
- American-backed Israel is pushing for a war against Iran.
- American and UK armaments manufacturers continue to show record profits as a result of American-created conflicts.
- In the USA and the UK citizens are not offered any peaceful political alternative. Republicans and Democrats in the USA, and Conservatives and Labour in the UK, all offer unconditional support to Israel and Ukraine - to the further benefit of their armaments manufacturers.
- The UK Labour party has become an embarrassment and, like politicians in the USA, is bought and paid for by those whose self-interest lies in maintaining the status quo, avoiding tax, supporting Israel and destroying the UK National Health Service.
- Every penny wasted on armaments, and on supporting the unsupportable, could go to improving the lives of UK citizens - but it doesn't and it won't given our current undemocratic political system.
- Peaceful democracy would be nice - it's a pity we haven't tried it yet.
