DLS: DryFire Laser System

Comparing DLS and DPS

The video below shows DLS running skeet 4 doubles. If you look carefully you can see that one hole in each moving head is showing the target as a red laser spot. The other hole in each head holds a camera which detects your shots.

Laser targets

DLS generates targets as laser dots moving in front of you on a wall or screen. The dot represent the leading edge of the clay.

DLS does not provide a projected image.

DPS (DryFire Projection System) is the version that provides a projected images and targets.

See the notes below comparing the two versions of the system.

The video below shows Tom Ridge, our USA distributor, shooting 5 targets of ATA trap with DLS upside down on the ceiling. Tom sells a painted background and a 3D polystyrene trap house to make things more interesting! Tom is using the older Universal Gun Assembly (UGA) which has now been replaced by the new battery powered Standard Gun Assembly (SGA).

DLS: the original DryFire

DLS has stood the test of time - over 20 years - and is being used by thousands of shooters worldwide.

DLS has two "heads" each of which can move horizontally and vertically thanks to motors inside the base and inside each head.

Each head also contains a low power laser which generates a spot of red light representing the leading edge of the clay - as you can see in the video above.

There is no physical; connection between your gun and the system, so you have total freedom of gun movement. The gun has a battery powered Standard Gun Assembly (SGA) mounted under the barrel and a switch wrapped round the trigger blade.

When you press the trigger the SGA sends out a short (<1/30th second) pulse of infrared (invisible) laer light which strikes the wall and is detected by a camera alongside the laser in the head.

Having detected the shot, DLS sends this informati9on back to the DryFire software running in the PC. The software therefore knows when you fired (when the camera saw the infrared pulse) and where you fired (where the canmera saw the pulse on the wall.)

The rest is just sums - horrendous sums!

The software takes into account a large number of factors before reporting back exactly where your shot string went in relation to the clay when they were at the closest point to one anoter. If sufficient pellets, with sufficient remaining energy to break the clay, stike the clay the software will report a hit - otherwise it will report a miss.

What does DLS consist of?

The DryFire Laser System (DLS) consists of:

  • The two head DLS simulator - shown above.
  • The Standard Gun Assembly (SGA) for mounting under your shotgun barrel.

SGA sends out a pulse of infra-red light when you shoot and this is detected by the cameras in the DLS moving heads.

  • The DryFire wrap round trigger switch for mounting to your trigger blade.

The optional TS22 trigger switch is available for those who prefer a switch mounted behind the trigger blade to give a more realistic "trigger feel".

  • Power supply.
  • USB cable.
  • The laser version of the DryFire software.

What does it do?

DLS provides accurate targets and detailed feedback in your own home:

  • at any time convenient to you,
  • using your own shotgun,
  • with no travel costs,
  • with no cartridge costs,
  • with no range fees or clay costs,
  • with no need to worry about the weather,
  • with accurate feedback after every shot.
  • with support for all trap, skeet and sporting disciplines - plus game.

DLS provides intensive practice - 100+ targets every evening is realistic.

DLS will improve your scores if used correctly.
