Seeking Partners for a New Wine Service Innovation

Retired Derbyshire engineers look for commercial partners for Tempevin Classic and Tempevin Sommelier

Two retired engineers from Derbyshire are seeking commercial partners to bring a new wine service innovation to a wider market.

Mike Lake and Brian Edmundson, whose careers began at Rolls-Royce Aero Engines before leading successful software and engineering businesses, have developed Tempevin, an instant, non-contact wine thermometer designed specifically for the wine trade and serious wine enthusiasts.

Their aim was simple: to solve what they see as one of wine's most overlooked contradictions. While wine writers, merchants and sommeliers routinely stress the importance of serving temperature, it is rarely measured at the point of service.

The result is a product family comprising two models.

Tempevin Classic is aimed at consumers and wine lovers. Elegantly presented and simple to use, it provides an instant temperature reading from the side of a wine bottle or above a glass without touching the wine. The founders believe it has strong potential as a premium gift product for wine enthusiasts or for sale alongside tasting notes in wine merchants.

Tempevin Sommelier has been developed specifically for professional wine service while being ideally suited for the serious wine buff. Designed to be worn on a lanyard, it is instantly available during restaurant service, tastings, wine judging and cellar work. The device is housed in a magnetic holder, allowing it to be removed and replaced quickly while remaining securely attached to the wearer.

The first pre-production units have already been manufactured and are now being evaluated by members of the wine trade. With product development complete, Mike and Brian are now looking for partners capable of taking the products to market.

"We have spent our careers developing technical products and building successful businesses," says Mike. "What we are looking for now are the right commercial partners with the enthusiasm, industry knowledge, market reach and distribution capability to realise the full potential of Tempevin."

The opportunities include full international manufacturing licensing, national distribution, retail partnerships and own-brand versions. The founders are particularly interested in discussions with entrepreneurs who would like a introduce Tempevin to the $300 billion a year wine market, wine merchants, distributors, hospitality suppliers, online retailers, wine accessory companies and businesses with established routes into both consumer and professional wine markets.

Individuals or companies interested in exploring partnership, licensing, distribution or retail opportunities are invited to make contact via tempevin.com.
